Hybrid Clematis

These are spectacular large flowered plants. Most bloom in summer. They will thrive in moist (not wet) well drained rich soils. Avoid dry sites like under eaves. If planting alongside a house, put the roots out from the foundation and train back to the wall.

Handle carefully when planting. Broken stems give a place for clematis wilt to gain entrance. Once established this disease is rarely a problem. Prune back hard each spring.
