Seminars 2004

  1. April 17 - INTENSIVE FRUIT TREE PRUNING COURSE
    This is a hands-on course for people who want to learn more about pruning. We will cover the principles involved in pruning young, middling and old age trees and discuss why we are pruning. We only require that you bring a small hand held pruning saw and a good pair of pruning shears. If you have a safe step ladder we would appreciate your bringing it as well. Be sure to mark your tools. Each participant will prune at least one tree and more if you feel up to it. This is an outdoor course so warm gear is very necessary. This course will take place from 10am to 2pm. It will take place rain or shine or snow flurries. A lunch made by the Cedar Cafe staff will be available for $10.00 or you can bring a box lunch. You need to pre-register as we are limited to 40 people.

  2. May 1 - THE ART OF GRAFTING
    Learn how to graft fruit trees, ornamental trees and conifers. This course is both indoor and outdoor, so bring warm clothes.

  3. May 15 - WILDFLOWERS AND FERNS OF THE MARITIMES
    Discover the beauty and diversity of our wild plants with a noted New Brunswick Botanist, Gart Bishop.

  4. June 5 - KNOWING AND GROWING PERENNIALS
    A look at the vast array of perennials available to today's gardeners. The best of the new and the old will be explored.

  5. June 19 - THE ART OF FLOWER ARRANGING
    Learn arranging basics from those that do, then try your hands at it. Materials will be available. Bring pruning shears if you can.

  6. July 3 - GROWING AND MAINTAINING THE HARDY ROSES
    An in-depth look at this most rewarding of plants given by Bob Osborne, author of 'Hardy Roses' and owner of Corn Hill Nursery.

  7. July 17 - GARDEN DESIGN
    A look at design from concept and drawing to installation.

  8. Aug 7 - SUMMER AND FALL PERENNIALS IN THE GARDEN
    See how you can bring more color into the late season garden and how to divide those older plants.

  9. Aug 21 - WORKING WITH STONE
    An outdoor session with one of the Maritime's most skilled stone masons, Joe Biedermann from Sable River, N.S.. He will cover how to lay the foundation for patios, basic wall laying skills, cutting stone and other subjects. This seminar will last from 10am to 3pm

  10. Sept 4 - COOKING WITH FLOWERS AND FRUITS FROM THE GARDEN
    How to use flowers and fruits to enhance the beauty and flavor of your cooking.

  11. Sept 18 - TASTING THE WINES OF THE WORLD ($25 PLUS TAX)
    An intimate session with a noted wine taster. Samples, of course, included.
