Zone 4 - 7m / 23ft - Ulmus glabra ‘Pendula’

Camperdown is a beautiful, weeping tree found by a groundskeeper in the forest surrounding the Camperdown Estate in Dundee, Scotland over 100 years ago. It was growing as a contorted branch on a Scotch elm. Cuttings of this contorted branch were grafted onto a Scottish (Wych) elm seedling at the Camperdown House.. The original contorted plant can still be found there and every Camperdown weeping elm tree is grafted from descendants of the original plant. These trees are nearly always grafted high to create the umbrella effect that allows you to sit underneath this vernal cascade of branches.
