Launched by the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre as part of the 49th Parallel Series after having been tested in Manitoba for many years. Canadian Shield has proven to be an outstanding double deep red with slightly lighter undersides. The flowers are individually borne on thin stems or in small clusters. Unlike many red roses, these do not fade. The foliage is a glossy green colour tinged red, and shows virtually no disease. This is an exceptionally hardy plant with great vigour.
