Zone 4 - Virginia. 1989 - Semi-dwarf rootstock

Dessert, cooking
Early season

Parentage: Probably Golden Delicious × Albermarle Pippin
The fruit begins grass-green and changes to soft yellow, sometimes with a reddish blush. The shape of the fruit closely resembles that of its parent, Golden Delicious. It has creamy white flesh that is sweet for an early apple, but with some tartness. This apple can be kept refrigerated for several weeks with little loss in quality. Ginger Gold is popular as an eating (dessert) apple, but is also excellent for sauce and salad. Browning does not readily occur. The tree is a vigorous grower that begins bearing early in life and produces good annual crops. Susceptible to mildew and fireblight. Its hardiness is still being tested in the north, but is grown with success in Zone 4b.
