This rusty brown apple may not look like anything special, but the flavour hidden in its asymmetric shape and limited shine. This odd little apple is considered one of the finest by those who enjoy a lively fruit with complex flavours, the strongest being pear! The apple has a background of greenish yellow but is often speckled or covered by a golden brown skin, including a bronze blush. The tree is a bit dense and needs attentive annual pruning to prevent biennial bearing. This also helps to improve fruit size. About five years to produce, and on dwarf a bit earlier. Shows good resistance to powdery mildew and apple scab. Can tend toward bitterpit, so soil pH levels are best around 6.5-7, and maintain good calcium.
