Cider
Early season

Parentage: Northern Queen × Rideau
This crab was originally bred by William Saunders at the Central Experimental Farm of Agriculture Canada in the early 20th century. Trail (aka Bilodeau) is actually a large crabapple, now mainly used for cider. It is an early season cultivar with high sugars but considered bittersharp. It has yellow skin with a bright red blush, some years showing russet. The tree is hardy with good scab resistance. This apple came to Claude Jolicoeur as an unknown and was named by him for the man who provided it to him. DNA testing later showed it was identical to Trail.
