Zone 1 - 1m / 3ft height -Lonicera caeruleum

The fruit introduction of the decade. This plant grows into the far north. These are selections chosen for fruit quality and pollination. The flavour has been compared to a blueberry-raspberry cross. Ripens in June. It is wise to protect from birds with netting. The flowers are so hardy they can take a temperature of -6c and still produce fruit. Incredible! Two different cultivars are required for pollination.

  1. Borealis – Excellent quality berries with rich flavour.

  2. Berryblue – Vigorous and productive with good-quality berries.

  3. Tundra – Large, superb-quality berries with a robust flavour.

  4. Smartblue – Reliable and hardy, excellent as a pollinator.
