Parentage: probably o.p. seedling of Alexander
Wolf River is one of the largest apples in our orchard, and probably one of the largest grown. Its flesh is rather coarse, preventing it from being a worthy dessert apple. It has been used primarily as a baking apple. It starts as a greenish-yellow colour becoming brick red as it matures. The tree can take up to 5 or 6 years before beginning to produce apples. Scab resistant and possibly cedar apple rust resistant. A famous apple common in New Brunswick orchards of the past. Noted for its extreme size. This was carried as seed of ‘Alexander’ by a Quebec lumberman who moved to Wisconsin and planted it next to the Wolf River.
