Zone 3b - Canada Skinner c. 1908 (usually attributed to Netherlands. De Goey, 1918) - 2m / 7ft

Parentage: Rosa rugosa × Mme. Norbert Levavasseur

F.J. Grootendorst is characterized by its prolific display of small, soft red flowers that resemble miniature carnations. The shoots are well armed with curved prickles. The flowers appear in large clusters backed by deep green foliage. One of the few true continuous bloomers. Once it begins, you will find blooms until frost. This rose was most likely bred by Canada’s F.L. Skinner, but after sending the plant to Dr. Macoun of the Ottawa Research Station, it appeared a decade later as a Dutch release. Several colour sports of this rose have been discovered. (see Grootendorst Supreme, Pink Grootendorst and White Grootendorst)
