Charles Albanel has the hardiness of its parent as well as a similar form, though slightly more compact. It was originally introduced as a low growing plant, but we find it to be quite vigorous. It has semi-double flowers in a pinkish-mauve colour. The new stems are medium green, and turn blackish as they age, and are covered in prickles. This plant is virtually immune to mildew and black spot.
